Double award joy for Edward Elgar Publishing!

Edward Elgar Publishing has won the award for Independent Academic, Educational and Professional Publisher of the Year at the annual industry awards hosted by the Bookseller in London on Monday 12th May.

This is the second time in as many years that Edward Elgar Publishing has won the award and comes three months after the firm was awarded the Frankfurt Book Fair Academic and Professional Publisher of the Year award by the Independent Publishers Guild.

The award recognized Edward Elgar Publishing’s successful transition to digital publishing, rising print book as well as electronic sales and the entrepreneurial approach of the firm. The judges also highlighted exceptional author care and high recommendation rate. Beating five other companies nominated in the category, The Bookseller judging panel noted that:

It is the second time this category has been given at the Bookseller Industry Awards – and the second time Edward Elgar Publishing has won it.

Success this time around is on the back of a year of record sales. Like many publishers in these sectors, Edward Elgar Publishing has transformed itself into a digital rather than print-led company, its Elgaronline platform now bedded in and providing fast-growing direct sales to libraries. And like many independents, it has used its agility to respond nimbly to new opportunities, stepping up its activity in emerging markets and forging into new segments of publishing.

Edward Elgar also shows how careful husbandry of a list, authors and staff can pay off in terms of stability and sales. It constantly tightens the nuts and bolts of its publishing, appears extremely popular among the authors and institutions that supply its content, and has enviably low staff turnover. Its worldwide marketing campaigns are smart too.
