Reflecting on more than 50 years of personal experience at the interface of epidemiology and health services research, Professor Walter Holland has recently published ‘Improving Health Services‘, which offers an expert account of the history of health services research and stresses the importance of heeding the findings. In an article which first appeared on the LSE Health and Social Care blog, Walter explains why we must overcome obstacles and continue to undertake reliable, valid research to enable us to develop and apply knowledge and improve the future of our health services.
