Elgar Law Publisher, Luke Adams, attended the conference in Brussels on 3rd July.
The brains behind the Chillin’ competition blog, Pablo Ibáñez Colomo and Alfonso Lamadrid de Pablo, are developing something of a reputation for orchestrating highly topical, on-point conferences in the field of competition law.
The conference “EU Courts and Competition Law: Myths, Gaps and Challenges” held in Brussels in early July was no exception. Thanks to a lively programme and a fantastic cast of high-level speakers – including senior practitioners, academics, judges, Commission officials, and even an Advocate General – the event attracted a packed hall, and generated stimulating debate throughout the afternoon. What was striking was the range of perspectives on offer, but at the same time the willingness by all parties to engage with different views in the collective cause of furthering understanding and insight into this rich and complex field. For a fuller flavour of the conference, check out this video.
The event featured, and celebrated, two Elgar authors – Eric Gippini-Fournier and Fernando Castillo de la Torre – whose new book Evidence, Proof and Judicial Review in EU Competition Law was the subject of much interest and (rightly so, we believe) adulation.
A brief word on the authors. Eric and Fernando have that rare combination of a forensic analytical skill set, an ability to communicate technical material in accessible terms, and genuine practical insight on a topic they deal with on a day-to-day basis. The book demonstrates all of this in abundance, and is the result of 10 years or more of work, thought, and refinement of their grasp of this subject matter. It reflects the ethos of the Elgar Law & Practice programme, that of publishing authoritative books of high practical value and utility, written with precision and analytical rigour.
